Meyton_Shooting_Range_tnAustralian shooters continued their great run of form overnight at the Air Rifle/Air Pistol Meyton Cup in Innsbruck, Austria.

Following a strong start to the five day event in the same city as where the inaugural Youth Olympic Winter Games were held, Australia’s women pistol shooters filled the entire podium.

Dina Aspandiyarova, who is currently ranked at number 13 in the world, led the charge for the Australian team with a qualifying score of 382 to enter the final one point clear of fellow countrywoman and world number three, Lalita Yauhleuskaya. 18-year-old Emily Esposito equalled her personal best score of 379 and qualified for the final in third place before firing the highest score of all finalists.

Esposito recorded a 99.1 over her ten shots to close the margin on her more experienced team mates and drew within 0.5 of Yauhleuskaya.

Aspandiyarova however did enough to hold on with a 98.4, to end up on a total of 480.4 and claim the title by 1.8.

In the men’s 10m air pistol Alfio Casagrande shot a 563 in qualifying third for the final, before a 93.3 left him fractionally short of winning a medal in fifth place.
